Before the 1883 eruption, Krakatoa was made of three islands: Lang and Verlaten, which were edge remnants left from an ancient, very large caldera-forming eruption; and Krakatoa itself, which had three volcanoes: Rakata (823m), Perboewatan (122m), and Danan (445m). You can see this in FIG 3 below.
